YOGA

Yoga (meaning “union”) is a holistic system of health and wellbeing that focuses on the mind and its functions, and is concerned with self-transformation and freedom from suffering. It is an ancient and complex practice with foundations in Indian philosophy. What began as an Eastern spiritual practice has evolved to become widely popular in the West as a way of promoting physical and mental wellbeing.

There are 4 main categories of mind-body practice in yoga:
  1. Physical postures and movement
  2. Breathing exercises
  3. Relaxation
  4. Mindfulness
There are many ways in which yoga can help you:

Psychology

Psychology is the study of human behaviour and mental processes. As both a science and profession, it is concerned with how people think, feel, and behave and learn. Psychology examines individuals and groups to better understand how people, communities and societies function, and identifies ways to help them thrive. It offers many helpful tools and strategies to help individuals, communities, and society to solve problems and improve quality of life.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness can be defined as the moment-to-moment awareness of one’s experience without judgment. There are several practices can cultivate mindfulness, such as yoga, tai chi and qigong. Most of the scientific literature has focused on mindfulness that is developed through mindfulness meditation — a self-regulation practice based on training attention and awareness in order to bring mental processes under greater voluntary control.
